Course Overview

It can be confronting to hear someone speak about suicide or self-harm. Employees are often concerned about saying the wrong thing or knowing how to provide support.

This workshop is designed to provide employees with knowledge to help them confidently have a conversation with someone at risk of suicide or self-harm. It also ensures they know how to connect people at risk with the right support.

What this workshop covers

During the course, participants learn:

  • about the prevalence of suicide in Australia
  • why it’s important to know what to say to someone at risk
  • why people may become suicidal or at risk of self-harm
  • common myths about suicide and self-harm
  • how to use a framework for responding to suicidal or self-harm statements
  • how to spot common signs and symptoms of people at risk
  • what support and resources are available (EAP, HR).
