Course Overview

A critical incident can be overwhelming and threatening for staff, leading to distress and a decline in performance and wellbeing.

This workshop helps participants use best-practice strategies to respond to critical incidents within the workplace.

What this workshop covers

During this course, participants will learn:

  • what a critical incident is and the key features of these events
  • how critical incidents impact individuals and organisations
  • how to minimise common risks of critical incidents, including Acute Stress Disorder and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • practical, pre-incident strategies that build the resilience of employees facing crisis, trauma or distress in their roles
  • how to manage critical incidents that present a risk within the workplace, including suicide, self-harm, violence, accidents, natural disasters and criminal activity
  • techniques that can be used immediately after a critical incident
  • how to implement the Psychological First Aid model and The Recovery Model
  • how to develop a toolkit and action plan for post-incident support
  • different coping strategies to support post-trauma recovery
  • what post-critical incident support options are available (EAP, HR).
